The former Armstrong Elementary School will be transformed into a beautiful facility for A Child’s Haven, a non-profit organization that provides a place of uplift and transformation to children whose development has been delayed by poverty, neglect and abuse. The extensive renovation aims at creating a light-filled, comforting and uplifting atmosphere for the children. A new tower marks the entrance to the main reception area, and four new light monitors bring in daylight and openness to break up the long main corridors. A new roof system will increase energy efficiency, house mechanical units and help transform the appearance of the building. Each classroom has access to an outdoor play patio and a fenced playground. An open-air pavilion acts as a rainy-day play space and a venue for family picnics.
