Our History
Founded in 1940 by the late W.E. Freeman, Freeman & Major Architects has enjoyed over 69 years of innovative and respected design. Following in his father's footsteps, Allen L. Freeman, AIA joined the firm over 30 years ago, at which time he became a partner along with Charles S. Major, Jr., AIA. Together they established a solid reputation for the firm.
In order to expand our service and expertise, Freeman & Major Architects joined forces in 2004 with Steve Peckham, AIA, founder of Signature Architects, LLC in Clemson, SC. This merger united talented staffs and expanded the firm's expertise and depth.
In 2006 the firm joined forces with Van Dyke Design Group, led by Joel Van Dyke, AIA. Van Dyke brought to the firm over 20 years of award-winning design leadership and a broad spectrum of project experience.
Now under the leadership of Steve Peckham AIA, Joel Van Dyke AIA and Allen Freeman AIA, the firm benefits from office locations in Greenville, SC and Clemson, SC. As a group of diverse, experienced and enthusiastic professionals, we are well positioned to offer our clients outstanding architectural design services.
Philosophy
Over the past 69 years, we have built a firm foundation based on our three guiding principles: integrity, insight and innovation. Our philosophy is centered on our commitment to being large enough to do important regional projects while being small enough that a Partner is intimately involved in every project. We strive to achieve an excellent result on each building we undertake. Our services always begin with listening and our goal is always our clients' success.
